106: New Bikes from EICMA with Rogue Mogul

Tonight we open up the truck and see what has been rolled out from the 2017 EICMA show.  WOW a lot has come out and we scratch the surface with our conversation with Moto-vlogger and member of the motonobodies - RougeMogul.

EICMA News

U-Turn

  • Rich got some feedback from listeners about using overpants to work instead of riding jeans.
  • Feedback to Rick on using a sheepskin throw to extend the riding time.

Spend My Money

Solo rider, back roads - not much for Highways, but should be able to handle them. Needs to handle mountain twistys well. More comfortable on a cruiser style, but fine with dual-sport style as well. Top of the budget is $13K. Fairly novice rider, 3 years experience. It's more about enjoying the ride than bells and whistles. No real preference on brand.

63: EICMA 2016

In this latest installment of the Loud Pipes! Motorcycle Podcast the guys talk about motorcycles from the EICMA show in Milan Italy.  There were so many motorcycles revealed at EICMA that we only picked a few that we feel are the most interesting.

Before getting down to business - we would like to take a moment to thank all the veterans that have served our country over the past 240 years.

Quick Store update - we had a request for hi-viz shirts, so we had our graphic department work on the request and now have orange and green short/long sleeve shirts.  Also the logo was changed from white/red to gray/black.  So please check out the LoudPipes store.

  • Planning - choosing a custom style - as Rico said in Episode 62 - please write in your thoughts on a basic style.
  • Rich's brother picked up a 1980 Suzuki GS 850

Rich's brother Kenny picked this up for $100 and it runs!  Suzuki GS 850 GL

33: EICMA 2015 and Artesenal Destilado de Agave (mezcal)

This episode we review some exciting news from the EICMA 2015 show in Milan, Italy, and a big thanks to Jonathan Lockwood, co-host of the Borderless podcast for joining us.

Rico is still south of the border and has managed to string together enough bandwidth to join us again and we make it the second episode with international flair.

Jon was on tap to monitor the feedback email box and reviewed a note from a listener with concerns about security of the donate page.  Rich mentioned that the donate button directs you to the secure back end of Squarespace and that payment processing is handled via Stripe.  We do not hold save or have access to any credit card information.

  • Jonathan gives us a overview of the Borderless podcast.
  • Talk about Mescal and be sure to check out his brand at (www.guinoguino.com)
  • Jonathan asked Rich and Rico why do they ride.  Check out episode 17 for detail as Rich and Rico go into more details.

32: 1983 Honda V65 Magna Project Bike, Moto-Blogging, and more with Matthew Williams

This episode we have a guest co-host to review the Android version of the Eat Sleep Ride App, motorcycle project, riding experience, moto blogging, and some EICMA News.

Rico is out of the country so we have now taken the show international.

Rich and Rico chat about only being able to ride local due to rainy weather in NC, which bring us to how prep your bike for the winter.  Rich finds that he let the inspection and registration run out while prepping the KLR.

Eat Sleep Ride Review:

  • Matthew was part of the Android beta testing. Many thanks again to Alex Crookes for getting Matthew into the beta.
  • Matthew has enjoyed the Eat Sleep Ride app and all the features it has to offer.  But would like to see a quick start/stop option that would save him from having to take off his gloves.

Matthew's Motorcycle Project 1983 Honda V65 Magna:

  • Bike was listed on Craiglist as 1986, but is really a 1983 and bike has been sitting for a long time and needed some TLC before getting back on the road.
  • Had to rebuild/clean the 4 carbs and get them re-linked.
  • Due to sitting around rust has set into gas tanks and both needed to be cleaned out.
  • Brake calipers pistons would not compress and rubbers around calipers needs some work.

Check out other photos/videos from Matthew V65 Magna project:

Matthew rides 50+ miles into work  on his current 1987 Suzuki Intruder 700 VS  and shares his riding experience about the commute:

  • Only has been riding since May 2015 and has put 4,000 miles on bike so far.
  • He didn't take the riders course wish he did and recommend that new riders take the course.
  • Since Matthews commute takes an hour+, he does moto blogging to make the trip feel shorter.  You can find his videos on youtube or search for ophbalance.

News Topics:

  • Harley Davidson top marketing officer leaving company
  • EICMA has started (November 16th) and we plan to review all the new from EICMA on our next episode.  But looking at what has already been released, we have a quick chat about the Moto Guzzi MGX-21 Flying Fortress.
